Shout out to McPhee who completely dropped the ball on the Flames selection. Could have chose one of our three former first rounder's as an asset for trading at the draft and signed Engellend next week.

Flames got lucky.

Any awards voted on by the PHWA have no validity anyways. These are the same people who put Ovechkin on the NHL All Star team twice, first team RW, second team LW.

Yup, couldn't believe they picked Engelland, what were they thinking? I was hoping the Flames would have dealt Brouwer with some prospects or picks to clear some space for Johnny and Monys new linemate and a top 4 d-man. But, entry draft is coming up and hopefully Tre works some effin magic. Who do you think the Flames should target?

Can't we just put Ferkland with Jonny and Monny??? Isn't that the number one line now?

People keep saying that, but I doubt that was ever an option. BT would easily be able to claim tampering--I imagine they've had a handshake deal with Engellund in place for quite some time. The headache that something like that would create for Vegas wouldn't be worth adding Kulak or Shinkaruk.

The Engellund pick would've came right from ownership. It's a marketing ploy that has the added benefit of helping players get adjusted to their new city. Having a hometown boy is huge, especially in a non-traditional hockey market that is not going to have a whole lot to cheer for in the next few years.

I'd even say that Engellund has a pretty good chance of becoming Vegas' first captain.

He's not even listed in Eklunds starting lineup.

Ok I will say it....

The Flames should be shopping Bennett for a #4 D man, or some help on the wing.

They have their top 3 centers Monahan-Backlund-Janko...Bennett is the chip they need to move. I honestly don't think Bennett is going to be a top line type of guy. Especially the way this team is shaping up.

How would it be tampering if Vegas had a 3 day period to negotiate? Im sure BT wasn't signing him anyway so he could have just traded him to Vegas today for future considerations to help Vegas have a resident on their team. Im sure it was an option.

Hah probably will but let's be honest, he's not really growing. Maybe he needs a fresh start? He also plays a position where the top 2 spots are already set, and our best prospect plays it too.

I'm not down on Sam really though ..he would have much better numbers if he played with better linemates ...but I do agree you have to give to get

He had a sophomore slump...
if he does poorly again this year, then maybe you reconsider, but give the kid a chance
He's young and played with crappy linemates last year!

Do we really need to go through the trade Sam bs again? Is a dumb (frank)ing idea. Janko hasn't proven poop. Not saying he won't, but he hasn't yet. And backs is 28 I think. He's not going to be a #2C forever. Someone will have to take his place in 2-3 years. That will not be Janko. Trading away solid center depth is stupid.

Why would they have to replace Backlund in a few years? I don't understand that point?

I think the Flames can win the cup with Monahan and Backlund 1-2. If trading Bennett brings in a guy like Barrie then I would do it.

Why would BT play nice with McPhee and lose 2 players to Vegas?

If Vegas 100% intended on signing him and they knew that Engellund was more than willing to sign with them then that would be enough for me to file a complaint with the league if i'm BT.

If the Flames wanted to fight back and take them to court (or whatever avenue they'd have to go down) then I'm sure there would be more than a few internal memos outlining their intentions to sign Engellund. It really just wouldn't be worth the headache for the Knights, they'll have a million other things to worry about this year.

We need to let Bennett build up his trade value again. I don't want to trade him at all, but if we trade him now we won't be getting enough for him.

Let him play out the bridge contract we're going to give him. If we still have some holes to fill or we don't think we can afford to extend him then maybe we consider trading him.

The kids a good hockey player, he is going to break out eventually.
